Tips for Fab Proposals

10 Easy Tips for Fab Workshop Proposals

  1. Invoke your audience’s energy and participation. Prepare activities that engage the audience to begin thinking creatively about your workshop topic and bring their own energy and ideas to the workshop.
  2. Limit text. Visuals and audience participation will bring your topic to life for your audience.
  3. What inspires you about this topic? Remember what inspired you to become an active learner. Your passion will translate into energy and audience engagement.
  4. Keep your learning objective in mind as you plan. What new ideas do want your audience to have at the top of their minds as they walk away from your workshop? Your learning objectives should tie in clearly with all workshop information and activities.
  5. Stay mindful of your intended audience’s level of education. Are you speaking to experts, beginners, professionals, laypeople, or all of the above?
  6. Stay mindful of your audience demographics. Who will benefit from your workshop and who do you plan to see in the audience? (Examples: men, women, intersex individuals, lesbians, gay men, transgender (FTM, MTF), allies, older adults, younger adults/adolescents, family members of LGBTI people)
  7. Link your workshop to the Summit’s theme, “Health Through the Life Course.”
  8. Review the workshop proposal requirements for submission.
  9. Invite collaborators to present with you. A variety of perspectives and voices addressing your topic will speak to a wider audience and keep the workshop dynamic and evocative.
  10. Bring humor and positive energy. Regardless of the topic, sensitive humor and levity will connect you to your audience.
