Our Vision

The 2009 National LGBTI Health Summit is dedicated to preserving and improving the emotional, physical, spiritual, mental, and social health and wellness of LGBTI people, who continue to experience significant health disparities because of our sexual orientations and/or gender identities.

Planners have chosen the theme of “Health Through the Life Course” to emphasize our mission to reach members of our communities at every point in their lives. The Summit will encompass workshops, plenaries, networking, organizing and social activities to meld our communities of letters and age together. We know that language can be problematic, and that many people do not identify with terms such as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender. Our summit strives to welcome those who identify otherwise--as queer, genderqueer, same-gender loving, and a wide diversity of other sexual and gender identities. We also embrace those who may not fit any of the above, but are allies in this cause.

The Bi Health Summit, scheduled for August 14, 2009, preludes the LGBTI Health Summit and will bring together professionals, advocates, activists, and allies of bisexual health concerns for updates on the field, movement-building, and strategizing about future directions and collaborations. This website serves as a hub for all of our communications and as needs arise, or as people have ideas for the Summit, the site will serve as the meeting place for all of us. That said, we will be looking to folks like you to help communicate information about the Summit to ensure we reach a wide, diverse audience with consideration for geography, race, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, physical, intellectual, and hearing ability, spirituality, interests, talents, perspectives, and professional/personal backgrounds.
